Mobile Testing, Enhanced Reporting, and More: Winter ’24 Release Recap
Jan 16, 2025
Level Access’s mission is to ensure everyone has equal access to technology. We’ve continually worked in pursuit of that mission by creating the market’s most comprehensive accessibility solution to help organizations design, build, deliver, and maintain accessible experiences at scale.
In our recent Winter ’24 Product Release webinar, we announced new enhancements that help us move even closer to the fulfillment of our mission—including refined reporting capabilities and new tools for building accessible native mobile apps. We also shared perspective on how artificial intelligence (AI) will accelerate accessibility.
We’ve captured highlights from our session in this article—but be sure to tune into the full on-demand webinar for more insight.
Richer insights, better guidance
The latest enhancements to our reporting will drive better decision making, giving you the ability to act faster with clearer guidance.
Earlier this year, we enabled users to continually assess the accessibility of entire websites with large-scale monitoring of up to 10,000 pages. Building on this feature, you can now export up to 12 months of that monitoring data. This update equips you with the data needed for in-depth analysis, progress reporting, and long-term website compliance tracking.
Need offline reports to work with locally, or to share with external agencies? All scanning and monitoring exports now include more remediation information, providing guidance on what actions you can take to improve accessibility.
Setting the stage for accessible mobile apps
As mobile apps remain an integral part of the digital landscape—with smartphone users spending nearly 90% of their time online in apps—the importance of mobile accessibility can’t be overstated. But while most teams recognize the importance of mobile accessibility, they’re often unsure how to approach it effectively.
To explore the challenges associated with accessibility for mobile apps, our team welcomed Ben Ogilvie, Head of Accessibility at ArcTouch, as our guest speaker. In his role, Ogilvie works with clients across industries to help them design, build, and maintain accessible mobile applications for their customers.
Ogilvie shed light on some of the most common mistakes organizations make as they try to deliver accessible apps—like thinking about accessibility as a problem exclusively for developers or quality assurance (QA) professionals, instead of leveraging the entire team.
Ogilvie also touched on broader challenges teams face, like obtaining clear guidance specific to mobile app accessibility, and discussed how he’s worked with teams to navigate these complexities.
“The Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) are seen as the international standard for baseline accessibility conformance, but the first letter in ‘WCAG’ stands for web. So applying WCAG to native mobile has always required some amount of interpretation.”
– Ben Ogilvie, Head of Accessibility, ArcTouch
Finally, Ogilvie shared insight on evolving regulatory requirements for mobile accessibility, with both the U.S. and European Union (EU) considering mobile apps in accessibility legislation. He specifically mentioned recent updates to laws like the Americans Disability Act (ADA) and Section 504 of the U.S. Rehabilitation Act, and highlighted the European Accessibility Act (EAA)’s guidance for making mobile app accessibility an ongoing process.
While evaluations are a necessary part of any accessibility strategy, teams need the ability to move faster.
Our suite of native mobile app tools, starting with the Mobile Testing SDK (now available in beta), will support efficient, sustainable mobile accessibility at scale. Building off the strength of our Testing SDK, the Mobile Testing SDK enables users to accelerate their app accessibility efforts by integrating native mobile accessibility testing directly into automated testing workflows.
Additionally, all results captured with the Mobile Testing SDK can be stored in the Level Access Platform for review, prioritization, syncing into issue tracking systems like Jira, or record keeping.
Get in touch with your CSM or reach out today if you’re interested in joining the Mobile Testing SDK beta.
What’s coming next?
Our Chief Product Officer, Andrew Chung, closed out our release webinar by recapping our product focus throughout 2024, and unveiling elements of our 2025 roadmap.
Chung highlighted five features soon to be coming to the platform, including the next addition to our suite of native mobile capabilities: a no-code mobile accessibility testing solution.
Finally, Chung discussed Level Access’s approach to AI, the key challenges our customers face when trying to deliver accessible digital experiences, and how we believe AI can reduce friction in those areas to help organizations scale their approach to accessibility. He also shared progress on Level Access’s journey with AI.
“We envision AI capabilities embedded across our entire ecosystem. Our plan is to integrate artificial intelligence into every aspect of our platform and our tools… to power accessibility everywhere.”
– Andrew Chung, Chief Product Officer, Level Access
