The US Access Board just released an Advance Notice of Proposed Rulemaking for IT and telecommunications accessibility. This is the first step in updating the Section 508 standards based on the Telecommunications and Electronic and Information Technology Advisory Committee (TIETAC) recommendations from April 2008. The advanced notice of proposed rulemaking (ANPRM) will be followed up by a public hearing at the CSUN conference in San Diego, CA later this month. Comments can also be made by email to firstname.lastname@example.org.
In addition to addressing Section 508 standards the ANPRM also aims to update the Americans with Disabilities Act Accessibility Guidelines (ADAAG) maintained by the Access Board in regards to kiosks and other point of sale devices.
