Next week people from around the world will celebrate Global Accessibility Awareness Day (GAAD), with events currently planned in the United States, Canada, India, Japan, Korea, Australia, Poland, Switzerland and the UK, and new in-person and virtual events being added daily.
Now recognized on the third Thursday of May each year, this community driven effort aims to get people talking, thinking and learning about the importance of digital accessibility for users with disabilities. GAAD organizers encourage designers, developers, usability professionals and others to take an hour of their day on May 21st to experience the impact of digital accessibility first-hand. A list of suggested activities on the GAAD website suggests you try unplugging your mouse and surfing the web using only your keyboard, or turn off your monitor and try visiting some of your favorite sites using only a screen reader – both are simple, yet impactful ways to illustrate the importance of digital accessibility.
SSB BART Group will be marking this important event a day early this year on Wednesday, May 20th with a happy hour at John Collins Bar in San Francisco. We invite members of the Digital Accessibility Community to join SSB BART Group’s West Coast team from 5-8:00 p.m. to talk about the latest developments in our industry and celebrate Global Accessibility Awareness Day. If you’re in the area and would like to join us please RSVP to firstname.lastname@example.org as soon as possible as space is limited.
