The Office of Management and Budget (OMB) has cleared the US Access Board’s final rule updating Section 508 standards and telecom guidelines. While the Rule has not been published yet, details are forthcoming.

In our September blog post, US Access Board Approves Final Section 508 Rule – Sends to OMB For Last Review, we reported that the US Access Board voted to approve and forward the final rule text and preamble of the ICT Standards and Guidelines (aka the Section 508 Refresh) to the OMB for final review prior to publishing in the Federal Register. The vote gave OMB staff authority to make non-substantive changes.

OMB had 90 days to review/approve the rule making, and soon it will be published in the Federal Register. Now that it has been reviewed and approved with publication within days, it should go into effect within six months, or toward the middle of July.
